Destroyer

I have a lot of civic pride for people in Vancouver making great music. One Vancouver artist that I think does not get enough attention from their home town is Dan Bejar, a.k.a. Destroyer.

I've been a fan since Destroyer opened up for The Flaming Lips at The Plaza of Nations in 2003 while it still existed. Weirdest concert venue ever? Maybe. There was something about Destroyer's sound that day that made me a fan for life.

Destroyer is back with a new song "Tintoretto, It's for You" and new album Labyrinthitis out March 25th. Major Vancouver vibes in the video.

Destroyer's last album Have We Met was awesome but was released in early 2020 while we were all fixated on everything COVID-19. It deserves a listen too. While you're at it try Kaputt, Destroyer's Rubies and Streethawk: A Seduction.

BONUS STORY: One time I was at a Vancouver park with my family and Dan Bejar was there with his kids too. One of his kids scraped their knee and I gave Dan some Band-Aid brand bandages. When I offered him the bandages, I said "Tintoretto, It's For You". Dan's hair was just as fantastic in-person as in his publicity photos.

(Everything in the preceding story is true, except for what I said when offering the bandages. I wish I said something cooler than "Hey, do you want some Band-Aids?")
